Certificate III in Civil Construction (Plant)
Course Outline:
The Certificate III in Civil Construction is a nationally accredited training program from the Training Package for Civil Construction. It covers civil operations work undertaken in local government, state road authorities and civil contractors.
Course Outcome:
This program provides a study pathway for students wishing to enter the one of nine major plant items, these being backhoe/loader, dozer, excavator, front end loader, grader, scraper, skid steer loader, pipelayer or recycler.
Course Structure and Core Units:
To obtain this qualification the student is required to select up to 21 units of competency units with the training to be delivered either on the job or off the job or a combination of either. This Each unit has an underpinning knowledge component and a practical experience component.
Entry Requirements:
There are no pre-requisites to this program
RPL/RCC:
Students who have completed appropriate training or who through prior learning and experience believe that they may have gained the required skill or competency stipulated for this course/unit may be granted credit upon substantiation of the claim.
Credit Transfer:
The nominal duration of this program is 36 months however credit through the RPL process will be given at every opportunity to ensure students progress at their own rate.
Exit Points/Articulation:
Successful students will exit with a Certificate III in Civil Construction (Plant)

Learning Strategies:
This Qualification is expected to be delivered in any one of the following Four forms,
1) All components delivered on the job
2) Theory base component delivered off the job with the practical components delivered on the job
3) Theory component off the job with a blend of practical components delivered between both off & on the job
4) Through recognition of prior learning (RPL), for partial recognition (with the balance of training completed with one of the previously mentioned modes) or the full qualification issued nto successful applicants.
For training, other than RPL, each unit has a student resource for content information, a written assessment and an observational checklist (to be signed off by the assessor). All components need to be completed to gain competency in the qualification.
Assessment System:
Theoretical and Practical assessment will occur for all units of competency.

Training Pathways:
Successful completion of this qualification may give the student the chance to continue into the next level of civil construction training, articulating into a range of specialised certificate IV qualifications. Successful completion of this qualification may give the student the chance to obtain an elevated role in the civil industry and take on more responsibility.
